BREAKING NEWS: Group Wants INEC Chairman To Resign Over ‘False Result’

A group, Global Initiatives for Good Governance (GIGG), a non-governmental organization, has called for the resignation of Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), over the declaration of ‘false result’ in the last February 2023 presidential election.

The group, led by Chief Emeka Kalu as its coordinator, in a statement to journalists on Monday, stated that INEC lawyers in their final reports admitted that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), won in 21 states of the federation….CONTINUE READING

The group also want Yakubu to apologise to Nigerians for setting a bad precedence in the annals of the country’s elections.

Kalu insisted that Yakubu intentionally falsified the presidential election results in favour of All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared Ahmed Bola Tinubu as the winner.

The statement said: “Henceforth, the INEC chairman should immediately resign his office and tender an unreserved apology to Nigeria. It is a bad precedent for the nation to be subjected to continued election fraud, which in turns derails our democratic values.

“For INEC lawyers to have failed to counter the fact that PDP won in 21 states confirms that Atiku Abubakar and Nigerians were robbed of his hard-earned votes in favour of APC. Kalu wondered how the country would be respected in the comity of nations when those entrusted with the mandate of piloting the affairs of the government aid, abet corruption and injustice.

He insisted that the INEC chairman had no moral right to remain in office, stressing that Atiku should be sworn-in as the president of Nigeria.

He regretted that the Nigerian citizens had gone through lots of hardship in the last two months due to the lack of the current government to take the right decisions and actions on issues of national importance.

Kalu also warned that the nation’s democracy was fast collapsing, while the actors and masterminds of election malpractices remain unpunished….CONTINUE READING
