Joao Felix has now been banished from Atlético Madrid training just weeks after officially leaving Chelsea.

That is according to Mundo Deportivo in Spain.

Well, the 23-year-old departed Stamford Bridge when his loan spell finished at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Mauricio Pochettino – according to Marca – decided not to keep Felix at Chelsea by making a bid to sign him on a permanent basis, and the forward has since returned to the Wanda Metropolitano.

Now – however – Diego Simeone has given the clearest indication yet that he doesn’t want the Portugal international around next season, as he leaves him out of training.

Well, the second clearest indication, after Felix saw his No.7 shirt taken and handed to Antoine Griezmann instead.

A story from Eldesmarque adds that Felix later joined the group after initially being axed from the first-team session.

Clearly, it has been a miserable time of late for the Viseu-born forward, and his future remains highly uncertain.

Renan Lodi has also been frozen out of first-team training by Simeone, so at least Felix is not alone in being shoved out into the wilderness by the Argentine.
Chelsea should consider bringing Joao Felix back

In our view, Chelsea should consider bringing Felix back to Stamford Bridge – in truth, the speed at which Pochettino decided not to sign him surprised us.

The Portuguese attacker was one of few bright spots for Chelsea in the second half of the 2022/23 campaign, scoring four goals in 16 Premier League appearances during his loan spell.

Those displays came in a struggling side, so if Pochettino can get Chelsea functioning next term, a player like Felix could thrive in attack alongside Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke.

Furthermore – from a financial viewpoint – Atlético Madrid aren’t doing much to preserve their £113m man’s value either, as Simeone takes steps to freeze him out.
