BREAKING: Army orders Court of Inquiry against Colonel for affair with Lt Colonel’s wife

The Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry to investigate allegations levelled against a Colonel posted in the Mission Olympics Wing in New Delhi of having an affair with a Lt Colonel’s wife.

The inquiry has been ordered by HQs Central Command, Lucknow, following a complaint by the Lt Colonel posted at the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE), Mhow.

Based on the complaint marked to the Brig-in-charge-Administration, HQ MCTE, the officiating Deputy Chief of Army Staff (IS&C), Lt Gen Michael Fernandez ordered a Board of Officers to seize and seal the digital artefacts (mobile phone, laptops etc) belonging to the Colonel. On his persistent refusal to let officials do so, the Colonel was placed under ‘close arrest’ under the watch of an officer and two jawans.

The officer against whom the allegations have been levelled has contended that he had been threatened to hand over his digital assets. He has also alleged that false reasons were initially given to him for confiscating digital artefacts belonging to him and his family. He has alleged that he was told that these are being confiscated as some confidential information was leaked from his mobile phone and the matter pertains to national security.

In a representation to the Army authorities, the Colonel also contended he was threatened even when he was admitted to the Base Hospital in Delhi Cantonment after being diagnosed with hypertension and was in psychiatric ward. The Colonel has also alleged that his official residence was sealed by the Board of Officers.

However, the Army instructions in this regard made it clear that since the officer was not sharing his mobile phone and laptop, a Board of Officers should visit his home and seize the same and in case the house was found locked, it should be sealed.

The Army orders in this regard also said that if the officer refuses to peacefully handover his digital artefacts, he shall be placed under close arrest for disobeying the lawful Command and his digital artefacts shall be seized and sealed by the Board of Officers in the presence of a representative of Corps of Military Police (CMP).
