The public rift between Shaibu and his superior, Governor Godwin Obaseki, has attracted widespread attention. Shaibu, concerned about possible impeachment proceedings, has taken legal action to prevent such actions, asserting that he has been obstructed from fulfilling his executive responsibilities by the Governor.

In contrast, Governor Obaseki has denied any intention to impeach his deputy, suggesting that Shaibu’s court action, as a member of the PDP, is a preemptive measure ahead of his anticipated switch to the APC.

Oshiomhole, in response, emphasized the importance of respecting authority figures. He clarified that the APC is neither a center for rehabilitating individuals nor an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp.The former Edo State Governor also pondered the legality of the court’s involvement in the purported impeachment case against Shaibu. He commented:

“I can only express my desire for Edo to be governed with tranquility and unity, given the larger entity to which we all belong – the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The volatility in political parties, with defections and re-defections, demonstrates that the only constant is Nigeria, not the political parties.

“That said, regarding the issue of someone seeking legal redress based on suspicion of potential impeachment, I am uncertain how a court can address mere suspicions. Perhaps my legal knowledge is limited, but this notion is puzzling to me. However, I wish to state that, in my capacity as a former steward of Osadebe Avenue, it is my aspiration for this administration, as well as future ones, regardless of party affiliation, to govern in harmony.”

Regarding the assertion that an individual plans to join the APC, it is important to note that the APC is not a place for rehabilitation. I can confidently assure you of that. The APC is content with its present state; we are content even as an opposition party. We are not inclined to embrace individuals who approach us due to setbacks they have faced.
