IDOMA VOICE gathered that Agada is one of the volunteers of The Hunters Security/Vigilante group that helps to keep rampaging kidnappers and other lawbreakers away from Owukpa.
Agada was attacked by the youths while he was trying to maintain law and order in the village of Udaburu Owukpa during a graduation party after the last day of WAEC examinations for the year 2023 by graduants of Government Day Secondary School, Ugbugbu Owukpa.
A source within the community told our reporter that there was a curfew in the village that bans residents, especially youths from staying outside beyond 11pm.
However, Agada, who was on patrol within Udaburu community that fateful day, saw some of the youths still outside and ordered them to return to their respective homes.
An argument ensued between them, and the youths descended on him and tried to disarm him. In the process, an accidental discharge occurred, and a stray bullet hit one of them.
The source said, “One of the youths, who lives close by, quickly ran home and brought an axe which he used to cut him on the head.
“He (Agada) collapsed, and the youths left him in the pool of his blood and took the victim of the stray bullet to his (Agada)’s wife, who is a chemist, for treatment.
“They later carried Agada in a wheelbarrow and dumped him on top of a grave inside his compound. It was the following day that the wife discovered her husband grasping for breath on top of the grace.
“He was rushed to St. Mary Okpoga, but doctors on duty said they couldn’t handle the case, and they were referred to Otukpo.
“Doctors in Otukpo eventually referred them to the Jos University Teaching Hospital, where he is battling for life.”
Speaking with IDOMA VOICE, his wife, Mrs. Kate Ikwuta, said the condition is deteriorating and they have spent a lot money without improvement.
She described the attack on her husband as callous and shameful, coming from her own supposed brothers.
