Dora Nkem Akunyili OFR was a prominent Nigerian pharmacist, academic, and public servant.

She dedicated her life to combating the serious issue of counterfeit drugs in Nigeria.

Born on December 14, 1954, in Makurdi, Nigeria, Akyunyili died in India on June 7, 2014.

She pursued her initial education, culminating in a Pharmacy degree from the University of Nigeria.

Later, she achieved a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of London.

Dora’s distinguished academic career began as a Senior Lecturer at the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nsukka.

However, her being the DG of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in 2001 marked a turning point.
