JUST IN: Coroner Inquest On Death Of Tochukwu Onyelumelukwe Initiated In Nanka

A coroner inquest to ascertain the cause of the death of late Mr. Tochukwu Onyelumelukwe of Enugwu village Nanka has been initiated.

Late Mr. Tochukwu Onyemelukwe died on 30th November, 2021, in what was said to be a mob attack for allegedly stealing one pack of noodles from an unknown shop.

Thereafter, people of the community who were alleged to have taken the remains from the mob, buried same without the consent of the family members.

The deceased family decided to seek justice by reporting the matter to the police.

Two years after, nothing was seen to have been done, or anything said to have caused his death.


Worried by the development, Barrister Udechukwu who swore to defend human right, rule of law and public order, decided to bring to the notice of the Judiciary and the Anambra state government, that the matter warrants a proceeding under sections three, four, and eight of the Coroners Law Cap thirty-five, the revised law of Anambra state 1991.

He said that in view of the nascent and extant laws in force that an application was made by Magistrate Court of Anambra state to hold a coroner’s inquest to determine the cause and circumstance of the violent death of Tochukwu Onyemelukwe in July 2023.


Also speaking, the Chairman of Enugwu Nanka village, Mr. Martin Okeke in a release read by Mr. Godson Oforkansi narrated how he was invaded in his house and how his sick wife was manhandled, his motorcycle seized and farm land destroyed.

He demanded on behalf of the village, justice for Tochukwu Onyemelukwe, even as he said that despite all forces to stop them, they are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that they get justice.

While pointing accusing fingers on some individuals, Mr. Okeke called on the government to wade into series of issues bedeviling the community for lasting peace….CONTINUE READING
