JUST IN: Death toll in Zaria Mosque collapse rises to 10

Following the tragic mosque collapse on Friday in Zaria, Kaduna State, reports indicates a death toll of 10 individuals, while 30 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, offered his earnest prayers for God’s divine healing and the swift recovery of all those who were unfortunately injured in the incident.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Muhammad Lawal Shehu said, “An advance team of senior government officials led by Balarabe Abbas Lawal, the Secretary to the State Government is already in Zaria to assess the situation on ground and attend the Islamic funeral rites of the deceased.”

According to the statement, the state government also issued a directive to commence investigation into the cause of the collapse.

Daily News 24 reports that the event unfolded last Friday, when a portion of the Central mosque gave way, leading to fatalities among the worshippers who had gathered there for prayer.

On the same Friday evening, at around 8:30 pm, mourners gathered to hold funeral prayers in honor of the departed victims.

Subsequently, the deceased were laid to rest in the city of Zaria.
