With the new Premier League campaign set to kick off later this evening with the Manchester club travelling to Turf Moor to take on Vincent Kompany’s Burnley, one pundit has addressed one potential issue that the treble winners could be facing.
Nicol says Guardiola will stamp out complacency at City
Speaking in a recent video on the ESPN FC YouTube channel, Nicol said this when asked if there’s any chance City’s success last season could result in some complacency setting in with the players this season.
He said: “There’s always just a little concern but I think the overriding factor for me to turn around and say you know what, not this team, is because of the manager.

“They won’t have the opportunity, if he even smells anybody getting complacent or not putting it in or whatever way you want to talk about, it’s Pep Guardiola.
“So for that reason I don’t see it. If they don’t win the league it won’t be because of the manager, it’ll be unlucky, some injuries, all things that can go wrong. But as far as attitude and going about it, no, that’s not going to happen with Pep in charge.”
Back in January, the Spaniard reiterated how important it is for him to not let complacency set in and to make sure his players stay hungry to keep winning titles.
This could be why Nicol thinks this will not likely be an issue for City this season due to Guardiola’s insistency when it comes to keeping his players focused on what they need to do to win.
